Many of you have noticed that our dental office family has grown. Earlier this year Dana joined our Advanced Dentistry family as our wonderful hygienist. I searched for a long time to find the most qualified hygienist to fit our practice philosophy and Dana came highly recommended from several colleagues. Those of you whom have been under her care know that she is very dedicated to her profession.
While on maternity leave, I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Nimi Gill help me out with the care of my patients. Since then, she has officially become my associate dentist. Dr. Gill also came highly recommended with excellent credentials and my staff and I are so glad that she has moved down to San Diego from the Bay Area and joined us in the care of our patients.
The newest member of my family outside of my dental practice is my son Kaden who was born in July. Thankfully he’s healthy and happily growing…and keeping us super busy and sleep-deprived.
I genuinely thank my loyal staff and my amazing patients who have supported me during this time of change…that is the growth of my dental practice and personal family.

Word of mouth and wives’ tales are not always what they seem and can sometimes be dangerous for your health. Dentistry has acquired its share of myths over the years. For all of the great things the internet has brought us, it is not always full of truths. Let’s take a look at some common dental myths.
Myth 1: Amalgam causes mercury to leak into your body.
This is still a highly debated topic, but this has not been proven to be true. The Food and Drug Administration, the World Health Organization, the United States Public Health Service, and the National Institute of Health have all ruled that there is not evidence to support this myth. Recent advances in dental filling materials have largely eliminated the issue. Today composite fillings have replaced amalgam fillings in many dental offices, such as ours.

Whether you do it to save money on toothpaste or to help the environment by throwing out that plastic tube a day or two later, you probably have your own way of trying to get that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. The internet is full of crazy ideas that people have. The simplest (and safest) method is to place the tube in warm water for a few minutes. Next, lay the tube on the edge of the sink and use your toothbrush handle to push the warm toothpaste to the top of the tube. You can use a binder clip to keep your toothpaste pushed up to the top (see picture). This also creates a travel-size tube that’s easier to put in your carry-on bag! Have you come up with a clever method of getting out that last bit of your toothpaste? Share it with us!
